Wow! My computer is allowing me to blog! Wooo! Hallelujah!
Perfect timing actually; technology.
Yes, technology is a great tool- I see how it is incredibly helpful in the medical world, and in many other fields. But, if we look at technology and how we use it in our every day lives...it is a bit uncomforting.
I realize you may be thinking " Well, if you are blogging, you are using technology!" and yes, that is true. However, the way I blog is, pretty much, the same way I or anyone else, would write in a journal or diary. The only thing blogging does for me, is makes it public. But let's look at social networking... I have a Facebook account, which I use everyday...( okay, several times a day..) and I really rely on it to know just about everything- from Birthday's, to anniversaries, to upcoming events, to enjoying everyday conversation, and much more. But, because I have access to all of this with just a username and password, I can now allow myself to be totally unsocial If I want to be ( but still have the advantage of knowing all the information I would normally have if I just talked to these people face-to-face). So, for people who are total introverts, social networking is probably the greatest invention in the world. It allows them to totally be in their own world, "speaking" when they want to, but "listening" all the time. Does this make sense? I guess what I am getting at, is that humans have enough problems communicating as it is, and I feel like social networking is creating a means of communication that is really not communicating at all.
Don't get me wrong. I think FB has a lot of great tools:
One can keep in touch with loved ones/friends who live far away
One can view pictures of their "friends"
You can use FB to message people ( Like you would in an email)
Long story short:
When can we all just put down our phones and laptops, and just talk to each other?
